Will You be angry forever?<br \/>\nWill Your jealousy burn like fire?<\/li>\n<li>Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not know You,<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And on the kingdoms that do not call on Your name.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>For they have devoured Jacob,<br \/>\nAnd laid waste his dwelling place.<\/li>\n<li>Do not remember former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tubibliaonline.com\/en\/iniquities-biblical-meaning\/\">iniquities<\/a> against us;<br \/>\nLet Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us,<br \/>\nFor we are brought very low.<\/li>\n<li>Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And deliver us, and provide atonement for our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tubibliaonline.com\/en\/7-deadly-sins-bible\/\">sins<\/a>, for Your name\u2019s sake.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"10\">\n<li>Why should the nations say, &#8220;Where is their God?&#8221;<br \/>\nLet there be known among the nations in our sight<br \/>\nThe avenging of the blood of Your servants which has been shed.<\/li>\n<li>Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You;<br \/>\nAccording to the greatness of Your power preserve those who are appointed to die.<\/li>\n<li>And return to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The reproach with which they have reproached You, O Lord.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"13\">\n<li>So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture,<br \/>\nWill give You thanks forever;<br \/>\nWe will show forth Your praise to all generations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"explanation-of-psalm-79\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Explanation_of_Psalm_79\"><\/span>Explanation of Psalm 79<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3114\" data-end=\"3331\">This psalm begins with a tone of deep <strong data-start=\"3158\" data-end=\"3186\">sorrow and despair<\/strong>. The people of Israel have been invaded, their temple has been desecrated, and their city has been destroyed. The suffering is real, and there is no way to hide it.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"3333\" data-end=\"3473\"><strong data-start=\"3337\" data-end=\"3471\">&#8220;O God, the nations have come into Your inheritance; they have defiled Your holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in heaps.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"3475\" data-end=\"3740\">Imagine seeing your home destroyed, the most sacred things to you reduced to ruins. That is how the Israelites felt at that moment. This verse reflects that feeling of <strong data-start=\"3637\" data-end=\"3660\">helplessness and loss<\/strong> that, in some way, we have all experienced at some point in life.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3747\" data-end=\"3793\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Injustice_and_the_Cry_for_Justice\"><\/span>Injustice and the Cry for Justice<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"3795\" data-end=\"3930\"><strong data-start=\"3799\" data-end=\"3928\">&#8220;The dead bodies of Your servants they have given as food for the birds of the heavens, the flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"3932\" data-end=\"4187\">Here, Asaph describes a terrible scene: the faithful have been killed and have not even received a proper burial. It is the height of injustice. How many times have we seen situations in the world that make us ask, <strong data-start=\"4158\" data-end=\"4184\">&#8220;Lord, where are You?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4189\" data-end=\"4238\">But the most impactful part comes next:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"4240\" data-end=\"4307\"><strong data-start=\"4244\" data-end=\"4305\">&#8220;How long, O Lord? Will You be angry forever?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"4309\" data-end=\"4647\">This cry of <strong data-start=\"4323\" data-end=\"4343\">&#8220;How long?&#8221;<\/strong> is something many of us can relate to. Sometimes, it seems that evil advances unchecked and that God does not intervene. However, what this psalm teaches us is that <strong data-start=\"4513\" data-end=\"4561\">we can speak to God with complete honesty<\/strong>. He is not offended when we ask Him, when we tell Him that we need His help.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"4654\" data-end=\"4696\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hope_in_the_Midst_of_Trial\"><\/span>Hope in the Midst of Trial<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"4698\" data-end=\"4834\">In the second half of the psalm, the tone changes. Asaph no longer only cries out for justice but also <strong data-start=\"4798\" data-end=\"4831\">asks for mercy and salvation<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"4836\" data-end=\"4994\"><strong data-start=\"4840\" data-end=\"4992\">&#8220;Do not remember former iniquities against us; let Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us, for we are brought very low.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"4996\" data-end=\"5172\">Here, there is an acknowledgment that, although the people have suffered, they have also made mistakes. Instead of remaining only in lament, <strong data-start=\"5130\" data-end=\"5158\">they seek God\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tubibliaonline.com\/en\/top-20-verses-on-forgiveness\/\">forgiveness<\/a><\/strong> and His help.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5174\" data-end=\"5393\">Sometimes, when we are in crisis, we focus only on the bad things happening to us. But <strong data-start=\"5269\" data-end=\"5332\">Psalm 79 teaches us that we must also look inward<\/strong>, recognize our faults, and ask God to renew us.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5395\" data-end=\"5473\">And the last part of the psalm leaves us with a message of <strong data-start=\"5446\" data-end=\"5470\">hope and gratitude<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"5475\" data-end=\"5612\"><strong data-start=\"5479\" data-end=\"5610\">&#8220;So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture, will give You thanks forever; we will show forth Your praise to all generations.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"5614\" data-end=\"5799\">It is incredible how, despite everything, the psalm ends with a promise of praise.
